What's in healthy kids lunch boxes?

A good healthy lunch box contains the following:

Starchy energy foods:

  • Bread
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Potatoes (not chips!)
     

Sandwiches are ideal and try using different types of breads - wholemeal, white, rye, rolls, pita, bagels, focaccia and rice cakes.

Protein foods:

  • Lean meat
  • Tinned tuna
  • Egg
  • Tofu
  • Baked beans
  • Peanut butter (check to see if there is a "nut-free" policy first)
  • Yoghurt and cheese - also contain much needed calcium
     

Healthy Drinks:

  • Water
  • Milk
  • Fruit Juice - 100% in a small serve
